Our Vision

The vision of the Hope Initiative is to mobilize the church to live out the life of Christ in the most neglected communities of Tuscaloosa County.

The vision of the Hope Initiative is to mobilize the church to live out the life of Christ in the most neglected communities of Tuscaloosa County.

In the book of Jonah we read of a storm that was tearing the boat apart, threatening the lives of everybody on board. When the captain of the boat found Jonah, he was sound asleep. What an incriminating picture of the church today. While people struggle with the storms of life, the church, for the best part, is sound asleep far away. The captain of the boat then asked Jonah one of the most convicting questions in the Bible, “How can you sleep at a time like this?” (Jonah 1:6, NLT) These are difficult days. Children are forgotten, families are hurting, and communities are neglected. This is no time for the God’s people to be hidden away, even within church walls, sound asleep. It’s time for action.

It is the vision of The Hope Initiative to mobilize God’s people to action in Tuscaloosa County. Jesus said, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick.” (Matthew 9:12, NASV) Think about it: Jesus helped the hurting, loved the lost, and preached to the poor. If Jesus walked in this world today, He would probably be in these communities; and so, it is our desire to engage the church to be the hands and feet of Jesus in the most neglected communities of Tuscaloosa County, to bring HOPE.
